PLAN YOUR POOL

Pool liner replacement cost

A replacement liner quote should include the exact fitted liner and the work needed beneath and around it. A liner-only price cannot establish the cost of a completed replacement.

Specify fit and thickness in measurable terms

Latham identifies pool size, shape, liner pattern and thickness as replacement variables. It distinguishes mils, meaning thousandths of an inch, from gauge terminology. A gauge number should not be assumed to equal the same number of mils.

Record the required thickness, attachment style, pool geometry and step details on every quote. Have the installer verify measurements before ordering; nominal pool length and width alone are insufficient.

What an installed replacement quote should address

ScopeWhat to clarify
Liner supplyExact dimensions, pattern, mil thickness, attachment and freight
Removal and preparationOld liner disposal, inspection and pool-floor preparation
Hidden repairsHow wall, floor or track repairs are approved and priced
FittingsWhich gaskets, faceplates and other consumables are replaced
Refill and start-upWho supplies water, balances chemistry and handles the first inspection
WarrantySeparate material coverage, installation coverage and exclusions

Keep repair allowances visible

Ask for a base replacement quote and written rates or allowances for repairs found after removal. Compare tax, disposal, water and fitting work consistently. Installed prices vary too widely between markets to publish here, so this page assigns no dollar figure to an unseen pool.

A thicker liner does not by itself prove a longer life for your pool. Water balance, fitting, use and environmental conditions matter. Read the actual warranty and its exclusions. A warranty term does not promise that the liner will last that long.

Arrange draining with the installer

Latham advises consulting the dealer before draining a vinyl-liner pool. Do not empty it merely to measure or shop for a liner. Have the professional assess the structure, groundwater and the installation sequence first.

Estimate refill volume from actual water dimensions and ask the water supplier about local fill and discharge rules. A liner project and a concrete resurfacing project require different scopes.

A FEW MORE ANSWERS

Common questions

Is 30 gauge the same as 30 mil?

Do not assume that. Ask for the measured thickness in mils; the manufacturer notes that gauge and mil terminology are not equivalent.

Can a new liner go directly over the old liner?

Latham advises removing the old liner and preparing the pool bottom. Have the installer specify the preparation included in the quote.
